Four days of fun, friendship in Fort Erie
From lumberjack shows to the midway, there’s lots to do at 2010 Friendship Festival
They are lumberjacks and they’re OK... . With all apologies to Michael Palin and the rest of the Monty Python’s Flying Circus crew, the lumberjacks are coming to this year’s Friendship Festival.


But there will be no song and dance as the Timberworks Lumberjacks square off in competitions in climbing, chopping, sawing and log rolling in the water for three shows daily.

Call it an Olympics of the forest.


The lumberjack competition is just one of many activities that will be a part of this year’s Friendship Festival, four days of music, fun and cross-border friendship.


Other events that run all weekend include:


• Carter Family Shows midway. Advance midway tickets on sale now for $20 (save $17.50 over the in festival price) at Money Mart, Ridgeway IDA or festival office. For details, visit www.friendshipfestival.com.


• Green Zone vendors and demonstrators specializing in environmentally friendly products.


• Kids Zone, with free daily entertainment, includes reptiles from the Seaway Serpentarium, Captain Mike, wood carving, the Golden Hammers, Cheeky Monkey’s Play area, face painting, the Rockettes.


Following is the daily schedule of festival events:


July 1


• Heritage Arts Legacy of Fort Erie presents the second annual Chalk Walk competition along the riverbank. The competition is open to artists of all ages and is a themed event. The theme this year is Erie Beach & Ferry Landings along the Niagara River from Point Abino to the Historic Shipyards. The competition begins at 11 a.m. and the judging takes place at 4 p.m.  

Chalk is supplied by the Friendship Festival and cash prizes are awarded. Sign up at www.friendshipfestival.com or call 905-871-6454. Heritage Arts Legacy of Fort Erie also presents Art on the Parkway; Chatauqua; and Artists’ Row.


• Songs Collide, a collaboration of six Niagara singer-songwriters, 8 to 11 p.m., Mather’s Arch Patio. Tickets $5, available in advance or at the gate, Mather’s Arch Patio,.


• See dogs herding ducks by Tee Creek Dog Training Center all day long inside the Arches.


• Canada Day Celebrations at Mather’s Arch Patio, Cake at 1 p.m., fireworks at 10 p.m.
July 2


• Aaron Bell, an Ojibway storyteller, will be at the demonstration tent and in the Kids Zone.


• Obedience Training by Dave McMahon’s Dog Training Academy.  Bring your dog and spend some time learning some basics with Dave during these very informative sessions.


• Fort Erie Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Battle of the Bands, 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., Mather’s Arch Patio.


• The Fort George Fife and Drums will lead the troupes into battle during the re-enactment of the War of 1812 complete with cannon and musket fire. The re-enactors actually camp out on the festival grounds, living in the 1812 lifestyle.


Canadian rockers Hedley will hit the stage as the headline act for a free concert Friday, July 2 at the Friendship Festival, organizers announced Monday.


• Hedley, with guests, The Johnstones and Street Pharmacy, 8 p.m. on the main concert stage.


July 3


• The Fort George Fife and Drums will lead the troupes into battle during the Reenactment of the War of 1812 complete with cannon and musket fire. The re-enactors actually camp out on the Festival grounds, living in the 1812 lifestyle.


• The Dog Lady and The Friendship Festival present Fort Erie’s Finest Pets Show at noon. Do you think your cat IS the cats pajamas or your dog is the pick of the litter, perhaps your hamster is the absolute hammiest?  If you have a pet that you wish to show off, bring it to the festival. There are several different categories. Enter at www.friendshipfestival.com.


• Niagara Spirit of Youth Powwow: 7th Generation of Peace is joining the Friendship Festival.  Grand entry, Noon.


• The Five Man Electrical Band, supported by Summer Jam, featuring Niagara musicians performing the music of The Grateful Dead, The Band and The Allman Brothers Band.
July 4


• Obedience Training by Dave McMahon’s Dog Training Academy. Bring your dog and spend some time learning some basics with Dave during these very informative sessions.


• All Canadian Pageant, All-Canadian runs Canada’s biggest pageant system open to babies, children and teens. For boys and girls.


• Niagara Spirit of Youth Powwow continues until 6 p.m.


•  Niagara British Car Club car display.


• A Celtic Gathering featuring pipes and drums, Scottish, Irish, and Morris Dancers. Heavy games in the field and Celtic music on Mather’s Arch Patio stage. Mass band at 5 p.m.


• Admit One Christian rock worship band comprised of musicians from both sides of the border, 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mather’s Arch Patio.


• Hands Across the Border, an initiative of peace started in 2009, is a handshake across two countries along the world’s longest undefended border, 6:30 Mather’s Arch & Front Park. ID required. Reception following at Mather‘s Arch Patio.

7月2日和3日在Fort George都有军事复古表演,有兴趣的朋友可前来观看。
